Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I set up an appointment with a counselor?

A.    Place a call into our front desk receptionists and they can tell clients about payment and set them with the appropriate counselor depending on the needs of the client.

2. What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

A.    Clients need to show up at least 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork. Depending on payment method, they may need to bring documentation of income, ID and verification of residency.

3. Do you prescribe medication?

A.    No, we do not prescribe any psychiatric or physical medications. However, it is not uncommon to have clients in therapy that take medications, so we can give clients the proper referral for medications if the client recommends or needs assistance with medication.

4. How much does counseling cost?

A.    For self-pay clients the cost is based on the credentials of the counselors.
Fully licensed counselors cost $60 per session.

Provisionally Licensed counselors cost $45 per session.

Graduate level student interns costs $35 per session.

Anger Management Group- $25 per session for 10 sessions

ADHD and Psychological Testing (ranges depending on amount of testing being conducted) Typically, it is $350 and up.

For Garland and Plano residents who meet the income and residency requirements may get 8 sessions for free if approved for The City Block Grant

For Victims of numerous traumas they can also get 8 free sessions if they qualify for our victims assistance grant. (VOCA)

5. Do you take insurance?

A. Yes, we currently accept Value Options/Northstar (Medicaid insurance)

Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Insurance

We are in the process of looking to expand our insurance acceptance base in the future.

We can also provide a bill of services to clients who can try to get reimbursement from their current insurance provider. (There is no guarantee other insurance providers will reimburse clients for their out of of network services at Galaxy.)

6. If I need medication, who would evaluate me and prescribe it?

A. Galaxy can make the proper referral to other mental health agencies who provide psychiatric evaluations and prescribe medications if needed. There are many facilities in the area who provide medication services.

7. What are your expectations of me as a client?

A. Therapy is a lot of hard work and dedication to change a person for the better. Our counselors expect clients to show up on time for appointments and show consistency in their attendance for therapy sessions. Counselors are here to help clients help themselves and being dedicated to empowering yourself is the first step.
